In the form of Dakshinaa-murti. Dakshinaamurti दक्षिणामूर्ति is the name given to Shiva to commemorate the most wonderful teaching He gave to Brahmaaब्रहमा , Naaraayan नारायण , Sanak सनक , Sanaatan सनातन and others while sitting with face southward. It is the most well-known Stotra स्तोत्र. The marvelousness about it was that the divine knowledge was given without a single word in the most through manner which dispelled all doubts about the most knotty problems of universe, soul and God and where the disciples(Shishyaasशिष्य) were the oldest universally worshipped wisest beings and the Master(Guru) was an extremely handsome young being. This name suggests the idea that this knowledge was so wonderfully given, because it was Mother who did the work in the form of Shiva शिव as Dakshinaa-Murti दक्षिणामूर्ति . This is a unique case where the supremely divine knowledge was given not through the tongue, not through touch, not through glance exchange, not through presence, but through of Mother. I say "not through presence," because Mother was not present as Mother. This is an instance of the highest type of Mother's Grace. Grace suggests the idea of its not depending on the worthiness of the person whom the Grace is showered but resulting from the greatness of the Gracious. ललिता सहस्रनाम स्तोत्र, नाम क्रमांक 725 EXTRACT FROM : MOTHER & MOTHER'S THOUSAND NAMES AUTHOR : MAI SWARUP MAI MARKAND MAI NIWAS, SARASWATI ROAD END, SANTACRUZ WEST, MUMBAI 400054. मन्त्रिणीन्यस्तराज्यधूः Who has entrusted Her kingdom to Mantrini or practitioner of Mantras. There is further reference of Mother as worshipable through Mantras. She who has entrusted Her Kingdom to Mantrini , goddess in charge of mantras. Mantrini may also be taken to mean those that worship Mother by Mantras. Mantra is a word formula which by its repetition creates a powerful protective force, which results in bringing about some manifestation or ripening out subtle elements to grosser, visible and experience-able conditions. The very desire and thought of obtaining a Mantra from the Guru is the dawning of Mother's Grace. How mere repetition brings the desired success is a secret to ordinary people, but there is the psychological and phonetic working behind it, in addition to the establishment of the link between the deity and the devotee. It is the exhibition of the general limitedness of human beings that they can not see more than one cause behind any working. ललिता सहस्रनाम स्तोत्र, नाम क्रमांक 786 EXTRACT FROM : MOTHER & MOTHE'S THOUSAND NAMES AUTHOR : MAI SWARUP MAI MARKAND MAI NIWAS , SARASWATI ROAD END, SANTA CRUZ WEST, MUMBAI 400054 INDIA. 23/6/2015 0 Comments Divine Mother's Name " Rahastarpana-tarpitaa " रहस्तर्पणतर्पिता Described / Mai-ism , Shakti-ism Rahastarpana-tarpitaa रहस्तर्पणतर्पिता
Gratified by the secret and mental oblations. The devotee should sacrifice himself to Mother in the fire of consciousness with all his knowledge or ignorance, righteousness or unrighteousness and sinlessness or sinfulness, heaven and hell and the ownership from the lump of clay to the whole dominion of the deities. In a word Mother is pleased when one hands over the whole charge of one's self as one is and when nothing remains as secret and kept concealed by the devotee from Mother. This is the secret of Mother worship. There should be no idea of alienship or separateness. Hand Yourself to Her wholly. Duryodhan दुर्योधन approached his mother who was powerful and chaste Sati for blessing so that he might not be defeated or killed. Gaandhaari गांधारी told him that she would pray to God and the moment she opened her eyes from the state of divine communion, whatever portion of his body her eyes would fall on would be immortalised. Duryodhan दुर्योधन deluded as a result of the diplomatic advice of Krishna कृष्ण wore a flower chaddi, fearing least it would be indecent if he were to appear in naked form his mother. When Gaandhaari गांधारी opened her eyes she wrathfully shouted out "You fool, you have been deceived". In the war he was killed, being hurt in the part that was concealed under the flower-wear. Mother says to the devotee," I have been the worshipped and Mother for innumerable lives to thee. Now let me be the worshipper and the daughter to serve thee after so many endless and indescribable miseries that you have suffered for me." She as daughter is the sitter in the lap of Her devotee at this stage. This idea I got at the worshipping place of my most revered old friend Kaushikarambhai V Mehta. When I went to him, he offered me with great love the best dish of almonds, sugar-candy etc.I would not eat though he repeatedly asked me to eat. The fact was that I do not eat or drink anything without dedication to Mother and I was too shy. My throat was chocked. In a piteous voice I sang two lines by way of an answer. " Mother, tell me whether you are Mother and I am son, or I am an old Father and you are my darling lovely daughter! " Generally, whenever parents gets best dainties to eat, children's remembrance stops the morsel going down the throat. It was this experience which made joyful and dancing and I said to myself, I have found the meaning of Shiva-kaameshvaraankasthaa. That Mother takes a fancy and delight to be the devotee's daughter is not an inappropriate idea. It is only fools who always prefer to be the worshipped and never the worshippers. There was a living instance in Bengal, the Blessed home of Mother Worship and the birth province of Her Blessedson Shri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. A devotee extremely poor once desired to celebrate Durga Pooja festival and went to fetch his daughter for the purpose from her husband's house. The husband's family was extremely rich and the members of the family drove out the devotee stating that he was a fool to expect that his daughter who was the queen of the family, which would be celebrating the festival gloriously with grand dinners, would be rolling half-starving at her father's house. The devotee returned and on the road journey wept under a tree at the first half of the journey. At the second half he found his daughter shouting out to him to stop. The daughter stated weeping that after his departure there was an exchange of harsh words and she was turned out to her father. The daughter said," Father, do not worry. You have been old. My husband has given me immeasurable wealth. We shall live together and I will serve you for your life." The father was still more miserable. Not only he was spurned but his daughter was turned out. The daughter served him shampooing and with most delicate love actually fondling old father- Durga Poojaa was celebrated with devotion gloriousness and lavish spending, in a manner which surprised the whole province. On the ninth night she sat in the devote's lap in full ecstasy and asked him," father , tell me honestly, don't you repent, having taken this idiosyncrasy of devotion to Mother." The devotee said," My darling, you are yet too young to have any idea of my love for Mother." Next morning the daughter was missing. On inquiry it was learnt that his real daughter had not left her husband's house. Mother often desires the fanciful pleasure of being the devotee's daughter. She feels joy of sitting in his lap. Reader, I am free with thee as we are soon to part, after a few pages. Weep and weep out of love for Mother, if you are a devotee. If you are a heartless learned one , laugh at my folly of wasting my breath in wilderness. Mother has been given Her right status by few devotees. Most of the devotees have understood Her to be stern and awful. Some have exploited Her Grace and Mercy. Very few have loved Mother as Mother. But here the love has been of such an immeasurable intensity that unlike the most universal truth that the Mother fondles the child , the devotee fondles the old Mother, who has been neglected and discarded by the ungrateful universe. In love when there is monotony due to the climax of loving in a particular relationship, there is still greater pleasure in inverting the relationship, just as when you have read a book for times without number, you like to read it from last chapter to the first. It is this idea which gives clue to the inversion of the letters of a Mantra. It is higher than the highest stage of natural love. The natural relationship is one of the schools of the devotees is for woman devotee to consider herself as beloved of Lord Krishna, and some male devotees too as in the Raadhaa-Vallabha school , consider themselves to be Gopis i.e., the beloved of Lord Krishna. On the above lines there is higher than the highest, and it is when the devotee considers God as his beloved. - ललितासहस्रनाम स्तोत्र, नाम क्रमांक 21 EXTRACT FROM : MOTHER'S THOUSAND NAMES AUTHOR : MAI SWARUP MAI MARKAND MAI NIWAS, SARASWATI ROAD END, SANTA CRUZ WEST, MUMBAI 400054 INDIA 22/6/2015 0 Comments Divine Mother's Name " Savyaapasavya-maargasthaa " सव्यापसव्यमार्गस्था Explained / Mai-ismSavya-apsvya-maargasthaa सव्यापसव्यमार्गस्था
Standing in the Right and Left Paths. Savya in another sense means path of deities (Devas) or path of light and Apasavya means the path of dead ancestors (Pitris) attend by meritorious men attached to family life, wife, children etc.The Maai-ist child while playing on the shore under the protection of Mother is happy with its Mother , leaving deep-drivers to pursue their own ambitions and exertions. One of the religious differences between Right and Left Path is that the Left-hand Path goer merely always meditates upon Mother even when he invokes and offers prayers to other deities. Your head does not bend to anyone else.Your heart does not liquefy for any one else as for Maai, but your Maai can be worshipped in any form, any place, in any condition, at any time. In the truest and uncontaminated purest form the Left Hand Path is of a much greater and more severe discipline ideally and psychologically. In the Left Path as the worshiper does not worship any other deities, naturally he incurs their displeasure. If you have some work to be got done from a king and you go on praising the the king alone and give not even the smallest tribute to others, they internally become obstructive. In Maai Maarga, as well, the obstructions, pains and ups and downs are much greater because of this reason, but the evolution is wonderfully quick. It is this reason that the ups and downs in the life of Maai follower are very great. Once a king and once a beggar, once revered and once spurned, once in he midst of hundreds and once in a single solitude with not a sparrow nearby. The idea is this :- Mother is extremely quick evolutioniser. The Founder always explains this by a simple reference to the washing of a shirt in two hours. Usually a shirt takes a week, but if the Mother is washer-woman takes pity, you will find the poor shirt being tossed from place to place and subjected to water, sun and fire in a cruelly hasty manner. The Founder says , " Enroll yourself as Mother's." She will do the rest. " Surrender yourself to Her Divine Will." "Do not worry what happens about you." Founder's most common say is this, " When you go to the Mother-host, keep your bag and baggage with Her at Hers. She will cook for you, wait for you and keep the dish for you, even though you do not return home up to midnight. Keep your bag to yourself She will not even ask you if you are hungry, She presumes you have taken care of yourself." This is the practical meaning of self-surrender. You have not even to think anything except about Her and what relates to Her. "Absolutely no vacancy, for anything else." The chief characteristics of the Left Path ( on the good side of it ) from the Maai-ists' visual angle which are worthy of assimilation by the Maai-ists are - No lukewarmness. Single-mindedness.(Mother and Mother alone), strong determination, stronger sacrifice and strongest readiness to suffer. Die and don't care. Renounce fully and bear no fears. No expectations from other deities, self-control and no slavishness to or fear of popular opinion. No sheepish obedience to scriptures and no shrinking from duties and sufferings. No loophole-seeking, no self-deception. It is claimed by the Left Path preachers that are the follower of the Left Path attains Moksha मोक्ष after enjoyment for a long time in this world. He has wealth. He shines with a beautiful body like that of Cupid कामदेव and subdues the richest and mightiest and fairest people who surround him. He infatuates all beautiful women who get stirred up with desire of his company. He controls lions and tigers , bhutaas भुत and pishaachas पिशाच्च (evil spirits and goblins). He wanders at his own will, unobstructed like the wind. It is stated in Hindu Scriptures that Mahaa-maayaa महामाया , Paarvati पार्वती and Shaaradaa शारदा should be worshipped by the right path followers alone. If one worships them by he Left Path he becomes sinful, first form falls from virtuous stages already attained, and becomes as pitiable as dead. The forms suitable for the Left Path वाम मार्ग , are stated to be Baalaa Tripura Sundari बाला त्रिपुर सुंदरी and Bhairavi भैरवी . The worshippable from most suitable to both the Paths is stated to be that of Baalaa बाला . Baalaa बाला is the short name of Baalaa-Tripura-Sundari बाला त्रिपुरसुंदरी and is represented by Bahuchari बहुचरी in Gujarat. The Mantra to please Her is : Aim Klim Sauh एें क्लीं सौ ।. She is the Mother in the form of a girl before teens and is comparatively easy to propitiate. On being pleased She gives infatuating Darshan दर्शन to the devotee in dreams and confirms his faith and weakens his love towards worldly possessions and pleasures. Darshan दर्शन is the vision of a temporary materialized form assumed by the worshipped to satiate the sight-hunger of the devotees. How pleasant is to see the most beautiful, lovely, innocent, royal, majestic, all-powerful and yet most delicate Mother in Her tiny limbs and features !! Playing with Her maiden friends with a flower ball in a garden or a lovely forest where spring has made everything enchanting and made you forget the worst miseries of yesterday and tomorrow. Once one sees that dream he does not feel composed till he comes to the point of weeping to have a second dream.Still one more and still one more. The world with all its pleasures stands as nothing comparatively. Mother's Path is immensely practical. It is the path of evolution by actual practises , practical observations, past experiences, etc. One of the programmes especially in the Left Path is the actual worship of a girl ten to twelve years of age and practicing devotion by sitting like a servant before her as if she is Baalaa बाला . ~ MAI-ISM ~ ललिता सहस्रनाम स्तोत्र, नाम क्रमांक 912 EXTRACT FROM THE BOOK : MOTHER & MOTHER'S THOUSAND NAMES AUTHOR : MAI SWARUP MAI MARKAND MAI NIWAS, SARASWATI ROAD END, SANTA CRUZ WEST, MUMBAI 400054 INDIA 21/6/2015 0 Comments Divine Mother's Names Yogyaa योग्या and Yugandharaa युगन्थरा Explained / Mai-ismYogyaa योग्या
The enjoyed. Yoga योग is the union of individual soul with the Supreme Soul which results by a process after having controlled all senses with mind. Yoga results in being freed from the attachment from pain. Yoga is the restraint of mental modifications and mainly of four varieties - The Raja Yoga राजयोग , Hatha Yoga हठयोग , Mantra Yoga मन्त्रयोग and Laya Yoga लययोग . The above is the popular interpretation of Yoga. Taking Yoga as union, it is the union of the enjoyer, the bestower of the enjoyment and the object of enjoyment. In a word the Bestower of enjoyment is the Mother, the enjoyer is the devotee and the enjoyed is the universe in the first instance and later She Herself. There is a stage when both are enjoyers of each other. During the last stages there is the unification of all these three as one. Next two remaining unified and finally one alone remains. The highest form of Mother as Infinite Source of the essence of Sattwikness सात्विक alone is the bestower of enjoyment and may be called योगदा Yogadaa. The next form with greater portion of Rajas रजस is the enjoyer, the devotee. Here She may be called Yogini योगिनी . And the third containing predominating portion of immovability and material nature is that of the universe, In this She may be called Yogyaa योग्या. ललिता सहस्रनाम स्तोत्र, नाम क्रमांक 655 Yugandharaa युगंधरा Bearer of the Yoke. We have referred to souls that take to approaching Her by knowledge. Yoga, devotion and Karma by which last, what is meant is remaining in the world with righteousness and practice of love and service , with Faith in Her and self-surrender to Her, with discharging of one's duties without the desire of fruit or the egotism of ownership or authorship. One question crops up here, which is so often is used as an argument by the discouraging opponents. " Does God come to fill in your bags of corn ? Is not God's subject good only for talking during leisure hours when nothing else is to be done ? If you are after God , is not even maintenance impossible ? This word states that what has been often promised. She is to be worshipped by the Arghya अर्घ्य means water mixed with holy substance for dedication to Mother. This Arghya should be your own mentality, your own consciousness. It should be Arghya; your mentality should be liquefied and not hard as solid. The Arghya अर्घ्य must be flavoured with eight holy substances. First non-injury, second sense-restraining, third pity, fourth compassion, fifth wisdom, sixth penance, seventh truth and eighth meditation. ललिता सहस्रनाम स्तोत्र, नाम क्रमांक 918 Chaitanya-kusuma-priyaa चैतन्यकुसुमप्रिया She is fond of Chaitanya flower. This means that Mother is fond of hearts as soft, delicate, sweet and fragrant as flowers. Some narrate the above stated eight substances as flowers, but penance and sense-restraining and wisdom are unfortunately substances too hard to justify being called flowers. I therefore prefer a little departure. The idea underlying this word is that having gone through penance and sense-restraining practices, etc., if the devotee turns cynic or hateful to others or looks upon the universe with an attitude of displeasure, disappointment or dissatisfaction, He is still immature. According to Mother's Ideal he who has a hatred towards ignorance, passion, wickedness, cruelty and other evils of the universe is still Katchaa कच्चा (immature). Evil must not remain as evil to him. When everything is joy creative, when nothing but good remains, then it is that Mother is fully pleased. She is pleased with the flower of the soul of Her devotee. Devotee must not be austere-looking or getting boisterous at the evils of the universe, etc. The higher meaning full of devotional ecstasy is that She is pleased by simply looking at the sweet flower-like (chaitnya - चैतन्य ) face of Her devotees. As a Mother the very fact that Her devotee is happy is enough to make Her happy, without any other expectation of service or worship or return of any kind from the devotee. When a man is in a foreign country the Mother passes anxious days for his return. When he returns, the very sight that he has come hale and hearty is more than enough to drown the Mother in an ecstasy of joy. She is pleased only with the fact that he has returned lively (alive), for which the son deserves no credit. Mother's heart says," Harass me remaining alive, but do not relieve me by dying." Chaitanya चैतन्य means life, livingness. ललिता सहस्रनाम स्तोत्र, नाम क्रमांक 919 EXTRACT FROM : MOTHER & MOTHER'S THOUSAND NAMES AUTHOR : MAI SWARUP MAI MARKAND MAI NIWAS, SARASWATI ROAD END, SANTA CRUZ WEST, MUMBAI 400054 INDIA 21/6/2015 0 Comments Divine Mother's Names Adbhut-chaaritra अदभुतचारित्रा & Ajnaana-dhvaanta-dipikaa अज्ञानध्वान्तदीपिका Explained / Mai-ismWhat India wants today, is the establishment of a strong Religious Machinery, operating in an extremely general wide and universal spirit, covering all grounds and all corners and all men and women of the country. However capacious and strong individual may be, they have to yield and break under the crushing weight of universally-spread evils and calamities. Universal evils can never be eradicated except by universal remedies, measures and machineries, and that too, under the merciful guidance of THE UNIVERSAL MERCIFUL ALMIGHTY PARENT.
Mai-ism has only six terms: (1) GOD AS MOTHER, (2) MOTHER OF ALL, (PROPITIABLE ON LIVING THE LIFE OF) (3) LOVE, (4) SERVICE (5) DEVOTION AND (6) UNCONDITIONAL CHEERFUL SELF-SURRENDER. Under MAI-ISM, the very belief in the existence of God is not indispensable, provided, one serves and loves all, to the best of one's capacity. Mother is the same Being as Father. Mother is the Mother of all Religious Founders, and a Mai-ist, in the sacred humble service of Mai Herself, is ten times the servant of any of the Mother's Illustrious Sons that have been the Recognised Incarnations, and the Founders of any Religion. How very trivial and tiny nothing, it becomes to bring in together several threads and shades of Hinduism, on broadcasting the Mai-istic faith spirit and theory?? Even on the rebellious-ness side, what greater conception can you have, regarding your personal liberty, in the matter of Religion (to whatever religion you may belong by birth or otherwise), than under Mai-ism, with full knowledge about what the Founder definitely proclaims?? " For all other religious questionings, my first and last answer is 'ASK YOUR MOTHER YOURSELF'" (Vide page 30 of MAI-SAHASRANAMA Vol.I, Part I). In understanding Mai-ism, there are no frightful words of Brahma, Maya, Kali, Avatars, Shakti, Adwaitism, etc., which may be un-understandable, at any rate, often unacceptable, to the westernised Hindus, or to the followers of religions other than Hinduism, who may remain under the suspicion of "Proselytism". If all religions are the creations of someone or another of all Mother's Sons, where is the need of your transferring your own coin from one of your own pockets to another one of your own pockets?? None worth the name is unaware, either about God, or about what "a Mother-and-child-relationship" is. Mai-ism says "Establish that relationship of a Mother and child, between yourself and your God, by whatever name you call your God". There are no incomprehensible religious technicalities of Vedas, Upanishads, Brahmasootras, Prasthana Traya, Gita, Shad-Darshans, etc., in Mai-ism. On the higher religious plane, Mai-ism lays highest stress on "Guru-Shishya-relationship". You can't proceed a single solid step after a certain stage, without the two chariot-wheels of (a) God's Grace and (b) Guru's grace. Let your Guru be, one whom you yourself select, who is nearest to and who is ever available to you, let him be only one step spiritually ahead of you. He must be one, who is heart and soul interested in your worldly and spiritual welfare. It is neither the Guru, nor the Shishya, but the Guru-Shishya relationship that is highest of the three elevating factors. If you succeed in establishing your unification full of Love, Service, Devotion and Self-surrender, with one Master, you have mastered the art of unifying yourself with the whole Universe. Without God's and Guru's grace, you have only endless repetitions of "makes and breaks", "advances and retreats", "virtues and vices", "pleasures and pains", "infatuation and disgust", "love and hate", and you are perpetually linked up in a never-stopping endless chain of "actions and reactions". In the field of different Deities, philosophies, and superiority of one's own Guru to another's Guru, etc., Mai-ism asks you to drown all differences, with its first and foremost commandment "Love all ". Further, it says, everything has only a relative superiority or inferiority. Not only one man's meat another man's poison, but the meat itself of a man at one moment turns to be the poison of the very same man at another moment. Your quarrelsomeness over petty matters, out of sheer ignorance, can only result in inviting Satan, to make you almost shattered and miserable. The highest power and highest happiness proceeds from "Loving all". Love is the final word of bliss and peace. The parent of Love is Mother. Don't lose your head and say "World does not exist at all", nor, in an idiotic manner try to usurp "Godship" ; but train your mind to see the temporariness, changefulness, deceitfulness and fruitlessness of worldliness, and with the raising up of the pictures of both past and future, simultaneously with the present, carry yourself to the conclusion, the world and its working is as unprofitable and worthless as not existing at all. Take only an all-flinging bird's-eye view. Man is the enjoyer, woman is the centre, wealth is the means, and sense-pleasures are the different modifications during a man's effort to seek complete union. Happiness proceeds from union with the desired. For the inferior man, the objects sought to be unified with, are inferior. A little higher-mind is the enjoyer, peace and happiness are the centres, concentration and consolidation are the means, and the development of various dormant occult powers are the modifications. The higher man has begun to realise at this stage, that happiness proceeds from neither woman nor wealth, but from the mind. Later, soul is the enjoyer, Mother or God is the centre; spirit is the means, and all universalistic and altruistic heart-yearnings and mental-activities of love, service, devotion and self-surrender, are the modifications. Higher and higher, the aspirant has to go with his own exertions, under God's and Guru's Grace. Do not be cheated by your mind, like a cook that makes your mouth to water, with various descriptions of dainties, but, in the end, keeps you starved. Don't pass away your whole night, in the fastidiousness about the cot, the bed, the pillow and the bed sheet, till the cock crows, and you are no longer your master. Begin with any spiritual exercise. Once you have secured God's and Guru's Grace, if you go wrong, atleast, God is there to remunerate your sincerity, humility and purity, and to guide you and to set you on right lines. The final stage is when the Soul and God are mutually the Enjoyer and the Enjoyed, with nothing between the two, till the Soul finally merges in Mother. There should not be the slightest feeling of droopingness, on comparison of yourself with the highest saints, that have "realised". Judge your progress by how far and how much you have bettered yourself, and never, by how much still remains. There is no end to how much still remains, even for the highest of saints. The highest proof of the Mother's Mercifulness is, that for the smallest effort of any striving aspirant, he gets a permanent benefit, that helps him, not for one life alone, but for lives and lives. In fact, true Religion is a science of not only improving your externals, but also and mainly, your own internal instruments and faculties, and transferring and sublimating your mind, heart and your own very Self. Further, the most secret point of a guiding principle, in the serial arrangement of events, circumstances and conditions in the chalked-out life for every being, has been that of alternate following of opposites. Without this, life would have been unbearable and all exertion for progress would have been discouraging and tiresome. Pleasure and pain, success and failure, perspiring work and undisturbed peaceful rest, rise and fall, march and retreat, have been designedly made to fill up alternately the long decades of period of each and every human life. There are extremely few cases of "no joy" and "misery" all alone at a long suicide-suggesting stretch. A little feasting has been always provided after every fasting. She that beholds or regards Her devotees as playmates with Herself as a She-swan. There is a similar word, viz., Muni-maanasa-hansikaa. The subtle difference of the Bhakta भक्त and Muni मुनी or Yogi योगी ( as I make it ) may please be noted. The Muni of Yogi begins by withdrawing all senses from their usual objects of pleasure and silences them to help his mind to concentrate on Mother. Mother is perceived and Bliss is experienced. In the case of the devotee he does not deprive the senses of their pleasures but so trains them as to be feeling pleasure in the objects of innocent pleasures connected with Mother alone. The Muni succeeds by controlling the senses and engaging the mind. The devotee succeeds by substituting and sublimating the tastes. The Muni closes doors against the universe and enjoys the secret company of Mother. The devotee keeps the doors wide open but trains the senses to a higher happiness. Jnanin knows Her, the Yogi sees Her, the devotee touches Her and Karma Nishtha open an account with Her. To the Muni, his mind is like the purest and most quite and crystallised water lake and in the midst of that lake the Muni sees the Mother as the most cheerful She-Swan. In the case of the Muni the purity and control is of the highest type. He is however on the bank and as a distant onlooker and enjoyer. In the case of the devotee, it is all like the preparation of a country school boy. Nothing is achieved systematically and by a settled process or procedure. His strong points are love and sacrifice for Mother. Bhakta is with Her though as humblest, and fully knowing the two planes of himself and Mother. He however is co-player. Maana means protection. Mother extends the protection and attention and relation as a Sa-hamsikaa सहंसिका as the compassionate She-Swan. In a word Bhakta is a play-mate to Mother. The enjoyment is mutual and not one-sided. She feels for him. She teases him. She feels for him and harasses him. She bends him double. She sportively even prostrates to him. She deceives him.She makes an appearance as if She is deceived by him. She frightens him. She shows as if She is afraid of him and so on. In one word She sports with him. ललिता सहस्रनाम स्तोत्र, नाम क्रमांक 372 EXTRACT FROM : MOTHER & MOTHER'S THOUSAND NAMES AUTHOR : MAI SWARUP MAI MARKAND MAI NIWAS, SARASWATI ROAD END, SANTA CRUZ WEST , MUMBAI 400054 INDIA. Mother who is otherwise hidden is fully seen in Dhyaana or meditation. By constant praises and thinking about Mother, there comes a stage when all other senses close their relations with other objects of their pleasures and emerge in this one object, viz., Mother. When all senses thus withdrawn from their respective other objects concentrate in Mother, it is meditation and in that condition She is most visibly seen. As during my experiences of others about the visualisations of deities and about the imagined religiosity which is most exaggeratedly believed to have been attained on the only basis of such visibility , I have seen so many misunderstandings, I wish to deal with this subject at length here. There is meeting of friends, every one of whom says he has an elephant. Every one is almost proud and satisfied that he is the possessor of an elephant, but they are benighted and there is no conveyance to return home. In the meanwhile one of them who was silent says," Oh, my elephant has come. Come on and I will give lift to you and leave you one by one at your homes." The fact was that everyone had an elephant. None was wrong, but one had a paper elephant, another had a cardboard one, still another had an ebonite one, and so on. Only one had a real living useful elephant. There are many who having some visualisation of some sort get deluded that they have reached the proximity of salvation and that this is their last life. I have met so many. The most pitiable misunderstanding !! One may have a wonderful visualization but Maai-ist must judge evolution by a reference to what he is. You see in your solitude a figure of any deities, but you are wrathful, greedy, anxious, full of desires, your faculties are not of the highest type, you are not attractive, you have so many enemies, your conclusions are not correct and your forecast of future do not turn out to be correct. You must in that case conclude that there is something wrong about your visions. You cannot reach Mother or see Mother, unless you are one of the highest souls with no desires, all readiness to sacrifice , constant remembrance of Mother, high purity, high transparency and great wisdom as to the best way of dealing with and addressing others, etc. Your having actually seen some deity figure is not denied, but how far that happening means that you are nearer to God or salvation must be judged, more by the permanent conditions of your acquisitions, attainments and developments and righteousness in your living the daily life , than by the mere experience of some vision. Visualisation arises from several sources : (1) It is simply a thought of mind that creates an impression of your having seen, just as several arrangements of clouds in the sky some figure is sometimes imagined and seen at a certain moment. (2) By still greater intensity and continued thinking and the seeing of a certain conception for a long time a figure is sometimes seen, just as children see something in the dark without there being anything. Numbers 1 and 2 are only mind's makings. (3) Next, by powerful intensity of thoughts, certain elements in the ether are being drawn together and you have the sight. This is an ethereal vision.(4) There are some invisible mischievous spirits who assume the form of the deity and derive frolic by seeing how the deluded man begins to dance , thinking that he is one of the highest souls who have got Saakshaatkaar साक्षात्कार (direct vision) of God. (5) Next some really good and religious, invisible angelic helper, taking pity on the person pining away for proof of existence or Darshana दर्शन (sight), consoles him and encourages him in his devotion by appearing as a deity. (6) Then comes the deputation of some one by the deity to console and encourage and assist, who appears as the deity. (7) Then comes the one of the invisible disembodied principal devotees of the particular deity (8) Then comes one of the principal actual companions, and constant adherent of the deity and lastly (9) the deity Herself or Himself. A vision is seen, but that is no proof of the proximity of salvation or deity's home. It may fall in any of the above nine varieties which I have enumerated.Which class the vision belongs to, should be judged, as stated above, by one's own personal self-analysis. Number (4) is generally very common; sometimes such spirits who are opposed to general religiosity play the mischief and stop the further religious progress by creating the feeling of enoughness. There are limitations and realities, Judge them by where and what you are. Do not get deluded away. Distinguish between mental, ethereal, spiritual and godly visions. One way of judging what class the vision belongs to, in addition to the general self-analysis is to see after effects and after conditions. If you are over-powered with a feeling of ecstasy, the feeling of being perfected, being much better than what you were, feeling that you have nothing more to wish or love for, there is a reason to believe the vision to be of a superior class. You feel you should have vision again and again. The other clue is to see how much of whatever is said or spoken by the vision figure comes out to be true. Judge the plane of purity which such speech proceeds. Decide the strength of sublimity and sanctity of the speech and emotion and knowledge during the vision. Have a very correct analysis of what you are, how you live and what you do. Your vision can not be above what your plane is . If you are a true disciplined disciple , Gurus appear. If you are a devotee, devotees appear. If you are a world-worm with a little hypo-critic appearance of religiosity and doing something here and there , ordinary spirits appear. If you are entirely uncared for and do not know your way out from a calamity, sometimes your dead relation and friend spirits appear. The fact is that the way is Infinite. Best that has been said till now by way of instructions by the best people and best founders of all religions is but the first furlong formula. It is useful only for the first furlong of the long, long unknown infinite way. Let people be happy with their respective elephants according to their maximum conceptions. Do not discourage them or break their heavens. Let all be happy by Mother's Grace. It is not that the Infinite way is made through by the struggling soul. He is himself unable to explain, record or even know how he reaches the goal. It is Mother and Mother's Grace that lifts him up and places him at or on the Goal. All talk of wisdom of " Do this and do not do that " except Mother's Grace is mere prattling. It is good in it's own sphere, and many times much better than nothing or the reverse thing, but nothing beyond it. A multi-millionaire thrusts himself suddenly into the house of his poorest friend and says," My Rolls Royce is waiting. I am going to Mahabaleshwar. Send one of your children with me." He is extremely quick. He turns his eyes and says," Yes come on,Bhaktiprasad." Catches Maai-sharan, drags Premsvarup, beckons Sevak and puts them all in the car. The car is off in a moment before other children think or even father replies. Dear reader !! I am very free with thee and much out of the way. The above explains what the Mother's Grace is . It is not the children that go to Mahabaleshwar. What each child's part in the achievement is its purity, amiability and cheerfully self-surrendering mentality. A neatly dressed, happy looking, contended, lovely, serving, obedient, individuality-submerged child. Be Mother's child. It is not possible for you to wade through the Infinite unknown way. Mother will take you. You only remain prepared with best though little you have. Reduce your own individuality. Love, service, devote and surrender . The best musician that visits you will take in his lap the worthless hand harmonium in preference to the most costly one, if the latter though with supreme tunes has one tune of itself, which will go on sounding whether the player wants it or not. Be prepared to be dealt with by Mother in any way She likes you; you will be the first to be in Her lap for being played with. Resign yourself to Her. Try to the extent you can. ललिता सहस्रनाम स्तोत्र, नाम क्रमांक 641 Jay Maai ! Jay Maai ! Jay Maai ! Jay Maai ! Jay Maai ! Jay Maai !Jay Maai ! Jay Maai ! Jay Maai ! Jay Maai ! Jay Maai ! Compassionate immeasurably and impartially. Her mercifulness and man's ungratefulness have made me weep so often, made me break into tears before others. Just yesterday [ 9-5-1938 ] a devotee came to me weeping to inform me that his brother has been taken into custody for defalcation and the surety asked for being for a great amount, there was no possibility of his being released on bail. ललिता सहस्रनाम स्तोत्र, नाम क्रमांक 992 I was moved.I felt giddy as I could not find the way and then broke into tears. I told the man I have such a bitter experience of the ungratefulness of mankind that I am now ashamed to pray to Mother for pouring Mercy on suffering souls". So many have lacked even the most superficial courtesy of a single good word after the calamity ( as of restoring of the lost vision, acquitted and escape from a sure sentence imprisonment) , is over ". At one place a man was under a criminal trial. The judge had decided to himself that he should be heavily sentenced. All remedies to get the mercy of the judge had failed. On hearing about the Founder he went to his place and in spite of his telling him that he was mere dust, that he had not iota of greater capacity than any other man of the street, would not leave his feet till a promise was given that Mother would show mercy on him. By some great some wonderful happenings he was acquitted. In spite of repeated and repeated and repeated requests, " Do not forget to thank my Mother when you are released, "Mother wants only a little recognition," there was not a word even through some one not a letter, not a single going to Mother, not a single desire of Darshan. Only a month back, the Founder received a very earnest letter from who stated that he and his wife were members of Mother's Lodge. His wife had been seriously ill. Doctors had left all hopes. He requested the Founder to pray to Mother. It would be foolish to write what people think of the Founder. The Founder replied,"If you honestly believe what you write about the Founder's relation with Mother, just take a little water, and a few flowers , pray to Mother and promise Her that you would not forget Her obligation. Run then to hospital. If you find the fever is gone, wire to me and do not forget to celebrate Mother's Mercy to you on ensuing Friday. Not to neglect the next Friday, Founder had repeatedly and repeatedly requested him. The fever immediately disappeared, as soon as he received letter and prayed. On being assured accordingly at the hospital, he wired to the Founder . But thanks-giving on next Friday was neglected. Ha had to make that indifference good by running down to Poona (Pune) and offer prayers personally to Mother. Again Mother was merciful . Not only on return to Bombay (Mumbai) did he find that all complications had disappeared but even the doctors' committee's opinion, viz., that a major operation was indispensable was changed. This letter promise he took from the Founder at 4 A.M. during the night. Husband and wife are now happy and they now regularly pray to Mother on every Friday. It is the most bitter experience of the Founder that people are so ungrateful that after the calamity is over they do not bestow even a moment's thought of thankfulness to Mother. Founder has often found that cruel beasts like tigers and lions are more grateful than man. And yet !! The Founder's lot is to break his head against the wall when he is taunted by routine religionists and orthodox people ," You have made Mother cheap like straw ". But reader !! Are you an atheist or a devotee !! How has Mother consoled the Founder !! Would like to know ? She had often told the Founder in dreams, " If Thou hast been Servant of my children for My Sake , am I not bound to be what Thou makest me ? " I presume the world is as it is, and yet my work is to create a love for Mother. Once a devotee on the river bank saw a scorpion being dragged in the river flood, struggling for life. The devotee out of pity went into the flood and took him up over his hand and began to make his way towards the bank. The scorpion begins to give stings and with the pain, tears were flowing from the eyes of devotee.Onlookers shouted out,"Throw of the scorpion," but he would not. On inquiry as to the cause of his folly he said ,"Mother created a scorpion and a devotee. The scorpion has not failed to fulfil the purpose for which he was made.Should the scorpion be true to its creator and I false to my Mother !!" Reader ! excuse me, I write only one thing out of hundred that I have experienced. If you are not prepared to excuse me for these outpouring, throw away Mother's book. What else can you expect from a devotional mind !! The Finalmost Truth is that Mother will ever remain pouring Her Mercy and man will ever remain being ungrateful. If man is to remain ever ungrateful, God to be ever pouring Mercy must be Mother, and because man is getting more and more absorbed in his own selfishness, greater is the necessity of God being Mother. EXTRACT FROM : MOTHER'S THOUSAND NAME AUTHOR : MAI SWARUP MAI MARKAND [ THE FOUNDER OF MAI-ISM ] MAI NIWAS, SARASWATI ROAD END, SANTA CRUZ WEST, MUMBAI 400054 INDIA 11/3/2015 0 Comments Universal Divine Mother MaiMai माई is Anekakoti Brahmaand Janani , अनेककोटिबह्माण्डजननी i.e. She creates numberless universes simultaneously or in succession. In doing so, very many universes co-exist. Every universe is administered by a trinity i.e. Brahma ब्रह्मा , Vishnu विष्णु and Shiva शिव .
Sage Narada नारद Son of Brahma ब्रह्मा was under the impression that his father was omniscient. When once he went to see his father for clearing certain doubts, he found to his dismay, that Brahma was praying to some one else. In disgust he turned back when Brahma called him and asked him why he was returning. Narada replied that he thought his father was omniscient, but he found him praying to somebody else superior to him. Brahma smiled and said how little Narada knew about the universe and its Supremo. Even the Trinity worships the Supremo who remains unseen. Brahma explained that of the Trinity he occupies the lowest rank. He added that all the three in Trinity have their end when their respective प्रलय pralaya comes. First Brahma dies, after very many years another pralaya comes and Vishnu meets his end. There after still very many years lapse and a third pralaya comes and Shiva vanishes. Only the Supremo remains unaffected and continue to govern the universes. The mystical universes are ruled by different sets of Trinity who is subservient to the unseen, unknown, the ultimate Supremo, viz. MAI. Mai is a word coined by Mai Herself when She commanded Maiji to install as Her Mai - " The Universal Divine Mother ". According to one Ramayana रामायण - there are thousand Ramayanas, it is said - after becoming victorious Rama राम called Hanuman हनुमान to his side and blessed him to become the next Brahma. The word ' next ' is important. That indicates the existing Brahma will not be there to continue. This corroborates what Brahma told Narada that he also is destined to meet his end. MAI is not admixture of several qualities but She is सत्व 'Sathwa' pure and simple. She is the Mother of all including Trinities existed or existing for She is the Creator. It is She who has created human beings, sun, moon, planets, stars, fire, water, air, earth, mountains, rivers, sky, heaven, trees, plants, animals, birds, time, space in short everything. It is by Her will alone that the sky stands without any support. Although She remains नित्ययौवना " Nitya Yauvana", She is really वृध्दा "Vriddha ". Take any god, that god has a mother, that mother has a mother, that mother's mother has a mother and it goes so on and so forth one reaches the final most Mother and that final most Mother is MAI . "MAI" means Universal Divine Mother, i.e., Mother of All, propitiable with universal love, service, devotion and unconditional cheerful self surrender. MAI is the final most, infinite one power that creates, maintains and refashions universes after universes. The one from whom anything and everything that has a name originates, in whom it lives and to whom it returns. To a thousand names of Vishnu a single name of Shiva is preferred. To a thousand names of Shiva, one single name of Shakti is preferred and to a thousand names of Shakti one single name of JAY MAI is preferred. The heart of Brahma is said to be Vishnu. The heart of Vishnu is said to be Shiva. The heart of Shiva is Shakti and the heart of Shiva and Shakti united is MAI. Rarely one in this world is devoted to the names of Mother. It is by repeating the names of other deities in crores of births, faith in repeating the names of Mother is generated. The faith which places the mere repetition of "JAY MAI " above all mantras carries therewith the highest supremacy. It is in the last of his repeated births that a person devotes himself to MAI and takes refuge in the Lotus Feet of Mother with the repetition of माई सहस्रनाम MAI Sahasranama and जय माई JAY MAI name. He that wishes to secure the love of Final most Mother without chanting Her name is like one who is dumbfounded and one desirous of enjoying beautiful sights without eyes and to satisfy hunger without taking food. Repetition of Her names creats attachment with love resulting from esteem, that of ॐ ह्रीं क्लीं श्रीं जय माई " Aum Hrim Klim Shrim JAY MAI " creates a desire of being incorporated with Her and Hers. Repetitions of Her names render one entirely worry-less, care-proof and strong with faith and conviction about having secured Mother's protection and trust in Her every dispensation being a blessing indisguise for one's weal and welfare. On repetition of Mother's names She manages to put one on the path in association with high soul, who patiently suffer, are friendly and merciful, undisturbed , equi-minded, non-attached, enemy-less, well behaved, self-controlled and tender hearted. Repetition of these names blesses one with a remarkable innocence and activity, which magnetizes man, women and children to gather around him to drown their cares in nectar like aura spreading presence to seek advice. Repetition develops intuitive fore-sight, right judgment and correct fore-telling which the repeater is gifted with by Mother to increase usefulness as he has been given privilege by Mother of serving the mission of universal love and service. Constant repetition of Her names creates a longing for Mother, which is one-pointed intense and nothing asking. It creates a delight in serving Mother and being accepted by Mother as Her own being even in communication with mother making mother as central pivot round which all willing, thinking, asking and living and continuing to exist revolves. Constant repetition interweaves Mother with oneself through memory. Painfulness on the idea of being separated and incapacity of being able to do anything else without and except musing on Her Magnificence, Mercifulness and Motherliness. Constant repetition creates a feeling of one's nothingness and a desire to be a plaything and a pawn for Mother's play, with the readiness giving one's everything with self-sacrifice and self-surrender. Repetition of names gradually gives rise to saintliness which means considering other's people's sorrow as one's own, harmlessness, forgivefulness, faith in final success of truthfulness, retirement from one's exertions to get materialistic happiness and comforts of this world and being above the desire of name and fame in addition to the tendencies , qualities and virtues of high souls. From Mai arises all incarnations, all living beings. She is not लक्ष्मी Lakshmi, देवी Devi, दुर्गा Durga or सरस्वती Saraswati but She is the Mother of all. She should not be confused with the wife of Shiva. In fact She is ब्रह्मस्वरूपिणी Brahma-swarupini. She is the Mother of millions of Trinity. Mai is propitiated by practicing 1] Motherhood of god 2]Universality 3]Love 4] Service 5] Devotion and 6] Unconditional Cheerful Self-surrender and 7] co-equal status of man and woman. By worshipping lesser gods one may attain swarga i.e. heaven and when merit is exhausted he may be born again. But by worshiping Mai the highest of all gods one will not have to be reborn. That is why Mai Swarupa has laid stress on propitiating Mai. The Finalmost Ultimate Mother is called Mai because She has no other name by way of delimitation. As already mentioned the word MAI was coined by MAI Herself when She asked Mai Swarupa to install Her. जय माई जय मार्कण्ड माई JAY MAI JAY MARKAND MAI. EXTRACT FROM U.R.M. N.K.P. NAIR'S ARTICAL, MAI NIWAS, SARASWATI ROAD END, SANTACRUZ (WEST), MUMBAI 400054 INDIA There is an unfortunate trend that is developing among the youngsters as far as religiosity is concerned, which is very alarming. It is also one of the reasons for so many unhappiness events that we hear and read about many people's lives today. Most of them think that having a good bank balance is all that is needed. All other aspects of life , like leading a disciplined life , upholding righteousness in day-to-day life , to be within the family or outside etc., are missing. Modern generation has a problem of getting attracted to so many unrighteous activities because of its inherent associations with materialistic pleasures. Why not acquire good bank balance of Mai's Grace by involving in good deeds, good thoughts, good words, etc. instead.
Remember any bad action has its different degree of degeneration, as its original cause. Some bed actions might have taken place , only because of some unavoidable circumstances , or compulsion or fear. It may often be , you are not otherwise so bad, but there was some accidental outflow . It may sometimes be , you were too lazy and indifferent , or too dull-headed, to stop or see the badness of a bad action. All these are milder varieties; but a deliberate bad action maneuvered intellectually, cleverly, systematically and secretly, is one that is a positive proof of your badness and is most formidable and is unforgivable by Mother. Saint Shri Maiji says," Weakness may be tolerated but wickedness has to be annihilated , eliminated." Maiji has further said that for Indians and Hindus their very backbone is Religion. All the best that is sought has to come through religiosity. We have no idea of religious greatness as tremendous centuries old divine supernatural force , - quite a different thing from the worldly force of money, intellect, militarism and physical brutality. Our highest protective force is our religiosity. Unfortunately, devotion to God and Guru in real sense, are lacking very much and is the last priorities. People approach God only when they need. Otherwise they are totally indifferent to anything related to God , like daily prayers, family religious gathering to worship their deity, daily worship, visit to holy places by the whole family, thanksgiving to one's Guru and God for the grace received etc. Happiness and peace of mind can not be achieved materialistically. That is the wrong modern mentality. These are spiritualistic acquisitions. It is worth remembering here one of the quotations of Swami Vivekananda: " Real well-being of India will commence from the day, the worship of Divine Mother will truly begin ". What was this prophecy about; when in India, people were already worshipping Mother for centuries in thousands of temples. If people have deep sense , it was a prophecy about the new conception of the Divine Mother, the new requirement of propitiating and the new method of worship, which were to truly begin under MAI-ISM that was soon following .So let none of us ever fail to ensure that, that day has truly begun in all our lives. There was no escape; no further postponement was possible. Thereupon Markand began to stipulate terms.
He said," If I get hitherto untenanted house, if I enter it on Friday, If I see a dazzling light that evening, if I receive a basket of sweets and fruits that day, if at 9.30 p.m. three girls and two men come unasked and press me to do the installation, if Mother's picture is available in any shop at 10.30 p.m.[http://maiism.weebly.com/blog/archives/02-2015] , if I am able to buy worshiping materials from a shop at 11 p.m. and if at 11.30 p.m. a hawker brings a beautiful garland befitting Mother, then I shall install Mother." Every one of these conditions were most wonderfully and accurately fulfilled one after another on the second day of September, nineteen hundred and thirty two. Is there anything difficult for Mother who is Unmesha-nimishotpanna-vipanna-buvanaavali [ Name No. 281 of Lalitaa Sahasranaama ]- the creator and destroyer of universes in the twinkling of an eye ? When finally a hawker of garlands began to cry his ware " Har , Har " at 11.30 p.m., Markand burst into tears and said," Mother, Thou hast caught me. Couldst Thou not found a better man to do Thy work ? " The five persons who had gone there uninvited encouraged him saying " She would Her own work. Who is more blessed than yourself ? Why should you lose heart and courage ? Where is the question of your worthiness or unworthiness, Sir, when She Herself has chosen you ?" Mai was formally installed at mid-night on 2 - 9 - 1932, Friday. Markand said to his audience : " From today I am a Mai-ist ; from today my religion is God as Mother, Mother of all, propitiable on living the life of Universal Love and Service with Devotion and Unconditional Cheerful Self-Surrender. Krishna, Zoroaster, Buddha, Christ, Muhammad and every Founder of every religion are Mai's illustrious sons. From now on, the Bible or Koran is as venerable and worship-able to me as the Geetha. I will continue to pray to God as I have till now, with the same intensity of love and devotion in a Hindu Mandir, Zoroastrian Agora, Christian Church, Muhammadan Masjid, or an Israelite Synagogue. No more religious differences. Devotion to Mother is devotion to Mother's children. I am a changed religionist from today. I install Mai today. " News of the declaration soon spread. Educated people saw the rationalistic Universal spirit of the new religion. The founder who was, the personification of Love , the embodiment of Service , the quintessence of devotion and the exemplar of Surrender to Divine will soon begin to be known as Mai Swarupa, Mai Kaka and Mai Baba . His disciples addressed him as Maiji. EXTRACT FROM THE BOOK : SAINT MAI - SWARUPA WRITTEN BY MAI SHISHU U.G. MENON, MAI NIWAS, SARASWATI ROAD END, SANTA CRUZ [WEST], MUMBAI 400054 INDIA. For the elucidation of those who desire to know more about Mai, Maiji, Mai-ist and Mai-ism, it is added and repeated here that Mai is the Universal Mother, the Motherhood conception of God Almighty, easily propitiable by living a life of Love, Service , Devotion and Unconditional Cheerful Self- Surrender and by the recognition of spiritual co-equal status of man and woman. Any idol or image , symbol or emblem, picture or sacrificial altar or any object, installed anywhere, either in a Church or a Temple or a mosque or Synagogue and worshiped by any people in any manner and any mode they decide , with any gospel or scriptures they prefer, but based on the conception that it represents Universal God, whether Mother or even Father or Jointly as Mother & Father etc. easily propitiable on living the life on the lines of the above stated tenets , by itself , is Mai or the Universal Mother. Similarly any preceptor preaching or teaching or propagating or inculcating the doctrine of Universal religion with Mai, the Universal Mother as its pivot and rallying focus and wedded to the said tenets , is Maiji of that particular group or area or generation or even age. The followers of the Universal Religion of Mai-ism with the Universal Mother or Mai as the Universal god, easily propitiable on living out the oft repeated principles, whether they form individuals or groups or associates or multitudes or adherents or co-workers or devotees, are all Mai-ists. Mai-ists that have taken their oath of allegiance are U.R.M. s of general or life-long oath. The doctrine of Universal Religion of Mai-ism entwined round Mai the Universal Mother, with its said indispensable cardinal principles of love, service, devotion and unconditional cheerful self-surrender and recognition of the spiritual co-equal status of man and woman, is Mai-ism. These universal conceptions and interpretations represent the quintessence of the Universal religion of Mai-ism and it is this , that has meant to be conveyed whenever the terms MAI, MAIJI, MAI-IST and MAI-ISM are used, under the universal religion of Mai-ism. EXTRACT FROM THE BOOK : MAI-ISM ALLGIANCE INITIATION MAI ADHERENTS' OATH BY AMI SWARUP MAI MARKAND , [PAGES 116 AND 117 ] EDITION 1965, MAI NIWAS, SARASWATI ROAD END, SANTA CRUZ [WEST], MUMBAI 400054 INDIA. 2/3/2015 1 Comment Divine Mother's MessengersThe Taraben episode focused Markand Dholakia's attention on the need to glorify Mother. The strange string of events : a devotee actually hearing what was mentally repeated by another, the prophecy of the saint of Pandharpur and its fulfillment, one devotee's fast extending another devotee's life by a week, a patient dying, as soon as guest steps out of the house; all these things neatly dovetailing with one another, led him to think that it was his duty to sing the glories of the Mother. The thought grew and became an obsession. He became half-mad and had to take leave on medical grounds , though the doctors were not able to say what exactly the disease was.
Shortly thereafter, a peculiar phenomenon began to manifest itself. Voices without human agency began to be heard. The words ," God as Mother, Mother of all propitiable with Universal Love, Service, Devotion and Unconditional Cheerful Self-surrender ", made themselves heard. Not only that, Markand began to see those words everywhere, wherever he turned, on the walls, on the doors, on the windows . Mother began to insist that he should install Her. He made several excuses; pleaded inefficiency, want of erudition, lack of funds for the work. All excuses were rejected and Mother threatened him with life-long semi-lunacy if he did not promise to install Her. There was no alternative . It was case of Hobson's choice. The moment he gave the promise, he became normal. However, no time had been fixed for the installation and the matter was not immediately attended to. In later years Saint Mai-Swarupa ( Markand Himself ) used to tell his disciples that the first requirement of a spiritual aspirant is humility. Humility is the sine qua non for spiritual progress. He used to say Taraneko namra jivan duhneki abhiman ( If you are humble you are saved, if you are proud you sink). Long before attainment of sainthood he had this essential quality in abundance. That was the reason why he put off installing Mother even after the promise; in his humble modesty, he really felt he was not competent to do the installation. Mother would frequently remind him, but considering the heavy responsibility that a formal installation would entail, Markand postponed doing it. Then came three messengers, one from Bombay (Mumbai), one from Shimoga (Mysore) and the third one from Calcutta, all three had received specific directions in dreams to proceed to Poona (Pune) and deliver a message to a devotee living there. They were such staunch devotees that without pausing to question the authenticity of the command they simply started out in search of person they had not even heard of. They fully believed that Mother would direct them to the right man. [1] Vrajlal Parekh was very staunch devotee of Mataji. One day he saw a dream, a temple to which Hindus, Christians, Muslims and Parsis and others were going. He saw at the top of the temple a board bearing the inscription " Mai Markand Temple ". He also saw the written command to this effect "Go to Poona and tell my son to install me," . Vrajlal knew the Founder (Markand) and rightly understood that the message was meant to be conveyed to him. He promptly did so. [2] The Second messenger from Calcutta was also a religious man. One night when he was staying at Nagpur he heard a voice in his dream telling him: " Go to Poona and ask my son to install me ". Without a moments hesitation he went to Poona where after several unsuccessful attempts to accommodation in various hotels and lodging houses finally he got a room in Gujarat Lodge. Though he managed to get accommodation there , how was he to know that he was so near to his man ? Weary, exhausted and almost beginning to doubt the wisdom of his hasty rush to Poona , he went to sleep. In his dream someone tell him not to lose heart and that the man he wanted to meet was in the front room. Immediately he jumped out of bed and peeped into the front room to verify his dream. There he saw a devotee pleading earnestly his incompetency and humbly begging that a more suitable person might be asked to do the installation. The devotee was then sitting in meditative trance. Not wanting to disturb a man in his meditation, the messenger made inquiries from the night-watchman of the lodge. The answer was," Can't tell you the gentleman's name. Everybody calls him Kaka. He is Govt. Officer. He goes to bed very late. I have seen light burning in his room till 2 or 3 in the morning. He gets up only by 9 O'clock." The man from Calcutta had friend living a few miles away. He thought of visiting the friend and coming back by the time Kaka got up. So he left by the early morning train to the nearest station. All ill luck would have it, there was some disturbance in the locality the previous day and the police were rounding up all new comers with the result that our man was arrested on alighting from the train. His protestations of innocence were of no avail. Frightened , he thought of Kaka and began to repeat " Kaka Bachao " (Kaka save me) . He was locked up for some time. The man was fervently and frantically repeating " Kaka Bachao " !! . In the evening police, quite contrary to their usual procedure released him. Sad and unnerved, he went to asleep. The Voice, an Angry voice this time , asked him, " Why, you did not have the time to my bidding ? Your repetition of Kaka Bachao saved you. Go and pass my message at once." Early next morning he went to Poona and delivered the message , the recipient of the message asked the man his name . The other answered " My name has nothing to do with it. "Kaka Bachao" !!. [3] Mr. Anant Iyer, a young man from Shimoga (Mysore) was the third messenger who was ordered in a dream to go to Poona and deliver the same message. Anant Iyer reached the hotel and by chance (?) , saw Markand in the dinning room. Something seemed to tell Anant Iyer that was the man he had traveled for to meet. So he made bold to ask the other if he was not a devotee of Mother. An emphatic affirmative was the answer. And the message was delivered. Anant Iyer, who had some spiritual knowledge and ritualistic devotion, had a great desire to see Mother at least in dream. He sought Markand's help. The latter agreed and took him to the Shaikh Sulla Bridge for discussion. They sat there from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. talking of Mother. Afterwards Anant Iyer went to sleep and he had a wonderful dream, in which Mother appeared and said," You have wished to see me in your dream. Who was talking to you on the bridge ? That was Myself ". With tears of joy the young man ran to Markand and narrated his dream. EXTRACT FROM THE BOOK : SAINT MAI SWARUPA WRITTEN BY MAI SHISHU U.G. MENON, MAI NIWAS, SARASWATI ROAD END, SANTA CRUZ (WEST), MUMBAI 4000054 INDIA. 20/2/2015 0 Comments The Soparkars EpisodeLate Mr. Soparkar and Markand Dholakia had been college mates and friends at Poona (Pune). The friendship continued even after the one had become the boss and the other a subordinate.
Mrs. Taraben Soparkar was a very devout lady. In September 1931 she became seriously ill and was confined to bed. One day, she thought she heard someone chanting a verse from Saptashati. She called out to her husband to go and see whether any Sadhu was anywhere in the vicinity. Soparkar obligingly went round the place and reported that there was nobody on the premises except himself and Markand who had just come. 'Oh' , she cried out gladly. He has come, has he ? Then he must be the person whom I heard. please bring him up. Taraben looked at the visitor standing at the door and began to repeat slowly : दुर्गे स्मृता हरसि भीतिमशेषजन्तोः स्वस्थैः स्मृता मतिमतीव शुभां ददासि । दारिद्र्यदुःख्ख हारिणी का त्वदन्या सर्वोपकारकरणाय सदार्द्रचित्ताः ।। दुर्गा सप्तशती अध्याय 4 , श्लोक 17 ।। Durge Smritha Harasi Bheethimasesha Jantoh Swasthai Smritha Mathimatheeva Shubham Dadasi | Daridrya Duhkha Bhayaharini Ka Twaddanya Sarvaopakarakarnaya Sadardra Chittha || [ saptashathi 4 : 17 ] She then asked if he had not been reciting the shloka. Markand nodded affirmatively but added that he had been repeating the lines only mentally without even moving his lips. It was his favorite stanza and he often used to recite it. It means : Oh Mother Durga , on remembering Thee, Thou art removing all types of fears from all sources. On remembering Thee with an established mind , mood and meditation, Thou art giving discrimination and deciding intellect towards righteousness. Who is there except Thee to remove all misery and poverty ? Thy heart is full of mercifulness to shower Thy Grace on Thy devotee. It was felt that Markand's presence was a source of comfort to Taraben who was on the last alp of her life's journey. So Soparkar persuaded his friend Markand to live in the house. One day, the teacher employed to give tuition to Soparkar's daughter happened to ask a saint of Pandharpur [Shri Daasganu Mahaaraaj ] about the chances of recovery of his pupil's mother. "The patient's time is already up " , was the reply. But out of courtesy to a saintly person living in the house the lady is not taken away. The moment he leaves the house the patient will leave this world. " This strange prophecy was promptly communicated to the master of the house. Soparkar began to brood pensively over the information. He was neither sentimental nor superstitious. But this was a matter touching the life of his dear wife . In spite of his disbelief the thought flashed across his mind that disregards of saint's words might spell disaster. After much thought he came to the conclusion that a willing suspension of disbelief would be a wise precaution against the unhappy, though unlikely, event of the prediction coming true. Love for his wife triumphed over cold logic. He used his official position and friendship to insist that Markand should not leave the house on any pretext and that his official work should be done from the house. A few days passed. Taraben was on her deathbed. Three eminent doctors from Bombay [Mumbai] , Kirkee [Khadki] and Poona [Pune] unanimously opined that the patient had but an hour more in this world. A large number of relatives stood in the hall, silently and sorrowfully watching the inert body swathed in blankets, cheeks pallid, eyes closed. The husband was a stricken man. "When serious illness strikes, people call the doctor. It is automatic for most to rely on human professional knowledge and skill. But finally when attending physician gravely shakes his head, and says there is nothing more that medical science can do, then at last people cry out desperately to God." (Herbert Armstrong). When the doctors left, Soparkar turned to Markand and said in a voice hoarse with agony and despair ," Can't you do something ?" As the latter began to gently shake his head, the stricken man continued more in sorrow than in anger ", Do what you can. I won't take no for answer. Don't be diffident. Do something. " Thereupon , just to console his friend, Markand went and stood near the patient's head and began to pray. Tears rolled down his face and a drop fell into the patient's mouth. The result was marvelous. As if in answer to a given signal, changes began to take place in the motionless form. A gentle glow slowly suffused the cheeks dispelling the ghostly pallor, the pulse speeded up, there was a mild , ever so mild heave of the chest and the eyes slowly opened , Taraben looked at her guest and said in a low voice," I saw Mother. She said if you promise to fast for a day, I would get an extension of life by a week. Won't you promise?" The promise was given forthwith and within minutes Mrs. Taraben Soparkar sat up and drank milk. Gone was her illness, Gone was the misery of the husband. Gone was the gloom that had enveloped the house. It was as if she had never been ill. Some called the incident a miracle. Others said it was luck. Yet others said the cure was due to the delayed action of the medicine given by the doctors . Armstrong would not have been wrong if in continuation of the passage quoted above he had said," And if God intervenes and cures the patient, very few are really grateful ". On the morning of the seventh day Taraben had fever suddenly. The husband realized the significance. He knew his wife would go that day. The extended tenure of life would expire that evening. He broke down and became hysterical. After a long time he became normal, thanks to ministrations of Markand. In the afternoon a message came from the Secretariat asking for a confidential file . The papers were in his office under lock and key. They were so confidential that either he had to go or send somebody in whom he had absolute confidence. He could not think of leaving his wife. Markand was the only person he could trust , but sending him out of the house might be disastrous according to the prediction of the Pandharpur Saint. He was in dilemma. Finally preferring to remain with his wife in her last moments, he sent his friend with every strict instructions not to tarry for a minute after handing over the papers. Mrs. Taraben Soparkar breathed her last the moment Markand stepped out of the house. EXTRACT FROM THE BOOK : SAINT MAI SWARUPA WRIIEN BY MAI SHISHU U.G. MENON, MAI NIWAS, SARASWATI ROAD END, SANTA CRUZ (WEST), MUMBAI 400054 INDIA Markand ( The Founder of Mai-ism - Saint Mai Swarup Mai Markand ) began his devotion of Divine Mother at the tender age of twelve. At first he tried to propitiate Rama, Krishna, Shiva and others but he was passed one by one deity to another, finally Divine Mother accepted him. He took to worship of Divine Mother at the instance of his mother Prabhadevi. After worship of Amba in a temple one day during worship the symbols slipped from his hands and were dashed to pieces against the stone floor. He was scolded for this and he left Mother Amba for good and started worshipping Kalika in another temple. It was situated in a desolate place and he shifted from there when land surrounding the temple was given on lease to a dramatic company. There after he went to a forest like area beyond the village limits and continued his worship to the fearful Chamunda. He never missed worship a single evening or a single night. He went on asking, " Mother, tell me doth Thou exist or not ?"
After a long period of worship of these goddesses, once while he was returning from a lonely place in darkness he was chased by two robbers as according to the custom of the age he was wearing ornaments on his hands and around neck. While he was proceeding on the main road he became suspicious about the chasers. Soon he entered a parallel long side lane to evade them. True to their intension the chasers followed him on the lane. By then he became sane of their designs. The nearest house was 40 minutes away. He said to himself," I will give all the ornaments but let them not kill me ". After 5 or 7 minutes of intensive prayer he was taken by surprise when found from one side of the paths " a very tall old cultivator's wife -like mother, black woman with black garment with a huge basket on a head " emerge. She silently followed the chasers. Nearly 30 minutes passed like this. The boy was anxious to reach the village boundary quickly praying that the woman may not leave him and the chasers. The chasers were every now and then looking at the fearfully tall and black woman, whether she was following them or not. The woman never sought their sympathy nor opened any talk. Nor did she allow the distance between her them to be smaller or greater. When all reached village boundary (Molaay Bhagole in Petlad) the boy observed that the woman had suddenly and inexplicably disappeared perhaps in the air. Being now safe near the village house he picked up a courage and asked the chasers " Where did that tall black fearful woman go ? They answered by laughing only. " One of them asked Markand " Have you faith in or do you worship Mata ? " " Yes, I never eat without worshiping Mataji ", " These are bad days. You have ornaments on your body. You should never wonder like this after sunset ". The first man added ," You were fortunate, we were with you and that tall black fearful woman was with us or otherwise someone would have robbed you this very night ". For months together the boy was remembering this instance and tried to arrive at a conclusion regarding the most timely appearance and the abrupt disappearance of the tall black fearful woman. (Years after one female devotee painted the whole incident to Maiji [Markand] and assured Him that the tall black woman was none than Mother) . THE WHIP HAND In 1900 in Ahmedabad just near the Cinema opposite Prembhai Bhatt near Bhadrakali temple , Markand was slowly making his way in the midst of usual crowd. A European pair was driving a dogcart with a smart terrible whip for a tall horse. The man twice or thrice shouted at Markand to be out of the way. He was absent-minded as his mind was occupied by the question " Doth Thou exist or not "? The European got wrathful and lifted his whip and as it were not enough to beat him out without getting additional force whirled it most forcefully in the air. The boy saw the whip spinning in the air over his head. Most spontaneously he cried out " Mother save me or I am dead ". All of a sudden the whip slipped from the hand and encircled the horse foot , the horse stumbled, the dog cart and wife all fell down on the ground. Immediately a crowd gathered to help the fallen horse and the lady. The boy ran and sought refuge at Bhadrakali temple for an hour and afterwards reached home by back-doors and a lane via Astodia Road to Akasheth Kuva Pole. That night he had a dream in which all the incidents of the evening repeated. In the dream Mother was laughing at the way in which he was trembling in fear. He repeated the question which troubled him for 3 to 4 years. He asked, " Why don't you tell me ? Doth Thou exist or not ? " The answer was , " I do not exist " and She laughed at him. The boy anxiously asked, " Who is then laughing at me and speaking ? " I do not exist ". The Mother answered , "Then whom are you questioning whether the questioned exist or not "? This brought about a sea change in him. He understood that it was Mother who saved him now from the whip-hand and it was the same Mother who saved him three years ago from robbers. ACCEPTANCE AS MOTHER'S SON In 1900 at the age of 15 the boy was convinced of the existence of God. He was convinced that he was saved from robbers by Kali. He tried to secure grace and recognition of the usually worshiped Hindu deities like Rama, Krishna, Shiva etc. He was passed on as it were by one deity to another till Mataji alone accepted him. In 1903 he shuddered at being the devotee of a terrible deity. He decided to perform hundred repetitions of Saptashati. He said,"If Mataji accepted him as Her son with no displeasure, no freaks, no terrible wrathfulness and vengeance for consciously or unconsciously done offences he would become Hers. " In 1903 at the age of 18 he started the experiment. When he completed 30 repetitions of he received a telegram at Poona [Pune] to start at once to see his mother who was with the uncle. Accordingly he reached about 2 P.M. Mahesana where his uncle was acting Collector. His uncle came to the station to receive him. Just at the station the uncle received an order from Baroda to proceed immediately to Bahucharaji , the most renowned temple of Devi Bahuchara. The uncle took Markand also to the temple. He wondered there were few chances of his mother going to the uncle , still fewer chances of her calling him to meet her, fewest chances of uncle getting orders to proceed to the temple. It is strange that he received the order at the railway station where he had come to receive Markand. The enigma unraveled itself in a dream. He saw in the dream a beautiful garden with best lawns, natural luxurious growth of dense forest, several singing birds peacocks, cuckoos; colored pigeons and several animals. The season was spring. On the boundaries of the central lawn there were thick shades of tall trees. Then appeared several most beautiful damsels between 12 to 18. They were playing a flower ball. In their midst there was one entirely luminous beautiful and incomparable. Markand was petrified and it did not take even a second to understand that the central majestic beauty was Mataji. He was concealing behind a tree. After a little play the Mataji said," just bring here that boy who is observing us. ". One of the Sakhis (female friend) took him to Her, He prostrated again and again. She asked," Who brought you here at my place ? " Markand most humbly replied ," That is your Divine will and grace ". Mother asked, " How long do you wish to oscillate ? Are not so many years enough ? " He replied, " That is a matter of your Divine grace." Mother asked," What suspicious and wrong conceptions are working in and troubling your mind ? " He answered ," Mother you know them best. Please condescend to set me on right lines leading to the devotion of Thy sacred Lotus Feet. " Said Mother," Hear then, the black terrible woman was myself. One that saved you from the whip was myself. One that pulled you out to come over here is myself. In spite of the highest tall talk the world remains straight only out of godly fear. Love to God is entirely different mentality. I am exactly the world believes me. If I were not, there will be no end of their wickedness of the world.. I keep them in freight. I punish them for their wickedness after every effort to improve individuals and even after giving repeated warnings . It is only the punishment which opens the eyes of the most of the wicked people. " The case of a devotee who bases his devotion on God lovingness is just the reverse. Your greatest painfulnes arises from your viewing me as the world had depicted me , where as you are the softest metal. As you wish and conceive often, how happy you would be if Devi or Mataji would love you as a mother loves her child.I am exactly what you wished me to be for them the rarest few. You can not do anything else except follow my path which you trod in so many years of your past lives. You are doing nothing. You can do nothing. You decide now your course yourself. Go. " This wonderful experience gave him a stupendous lift. On returning to Poona (Pune) he became a changed person, a confirmed devotee; he completed the one hundred repetitions of Saptashati and continued the repetitions further. RIVER INITIATION In 1907 at 22 he had the most calamitous and yet the final hardest hammer blow under which he would have suffered but for Mother's Grace. He read Yoga Vasishtam and books on Vedanta philosophy. He was captivated by the aphorism " Aham Brahma Asmi " and his head turned. He thought he was all along under a delusion and pitiable victim of a cheat by Mataji , the Maya deity. Driven by reckless abandon he flung away in the river Mula-Mutha Sangam his worshipping materials, his deity's picture, Saptashati, Wooden seat and Vessels. Soon thereafter he left for his native place, "Petlad". As a result of his faithless desertion of Mother he lost his miraculous powers. Instead of respect he met with contempt. He was dethroned and deposed. his good character, sense of values, morality and goodness were about to leave him. At last his magnitude of his ingratitude to Mother dawned upon him. In highest desperation one day in Petlad he tore off his garments and sacred threat., threw off his shirt and dhoti and cap in the street and ran away from his house either to end or mend his life , to be a Sanyasin or to commit suicide. His father ran after him and his mother ran after the father. Both took him back to their home. When he became normal he came back to Poona [Pune] to resume his studies. The remorse for having forsworn Divine Mother who always helped him worked as a canker worm in his mind. He lost his peace of mind and earnestly desired Mother to re-accept him. Oppressed by the sin he had committed he decided to drown in the same river where he had flung his worshiping materials unless Mother re-accepted him. " He ran towards the river water depth with a speed which he had never before used.". "The rushing body with all momentum goes straight into a center of radiance and stops. " He was caught in the sweetest trans - heavenly embrace of Mother. the visible and infatuatingly Beautiful Mother. Thus he was saved by Mother who embraced him from behind and thus prevented him from falling into the river. She assured him She did not or would not ever disown him. Retracing to his room he was surprised to find the very same deity's picture, the very same scriptural book of Saptashati, the very same wooden-seat, the very same worshipping articles at the very same place as they were and where they were before, the very same things which he had thrown away in the river with contempt about six weeks before. From this moment onwards "he linked himself with and riveted himself to Mother". Immediately thereafter His occult powers were restored. He regained his Vakkyasiddhi. Like the sun after eclipse, he rose to greater heights with untold radiance. On number of occasions he had "personal eye-to-eye vision of Divine Mother in waking state ". EXTENDS LIFE The wife of his friend and superior officer was on death bed. All the doctors who treated her gave up all hopes. The husband wanted some more time to prepare for the worst. Maiji (Markand) prayed and sinking lady's life was extended by a week. This miracle was a turning point in Maiji's (Markand's) life. He saw the divine hand of Mother in the prolongation of life. She had saved Him many times, showered on Him blessings and granted Him visions after visions. He was beset with the sense of ingratitude for not breathing even a syllable about her to any one. By way of quid pro quo He decided to glorify Her. Strangely and wonderfully Mother commanded Him to install Her as " Mai " , the Universal Divine Mother. His plea of diffidence was dismissed by Her. He was coerced to install Her and She was installed on 2 SEPTEMBER 1932, FRIDAY at 12 midnight and then at Her behest He declared "MAI-ISM", the Universal Religion. Mai-ism scriptures consists of six words only [1] Motherhood of God [2] Universality [3] Love [4] Service [5] Devotion and [6] Unconditional Cheerful Self-Surrender. These words are sacrosanct to Mai-ists as Mai Herself had disclosed them to Maiji. The happy blending of an unrivalled ancestry, an exalted parentage , an intensive education, an unattainable knowledge, an unparalleled devotion, an unequalled Mother's Grace and the culmination of his elevation as Mother's son gave us SAINT MAI SWARUPA the great and at the same time the one and the only Motherly Saint the world has ever seen. PUBLISHER : UNIVERSAL MAIISM TRUST , MAI NIWAS, SARASWATI ROAD END, SANTA CRUZ [WEST], MUMBAI 400054 INDIA. 9/2/2015 4 Comments Mai-ism : What It Stands For ?Mai literally means mother. Mai of Mai-ism is the Finalmost God conceived as Mother. The principal tenets of Mai-ism are : Universality, Motherhood of God, Love, Service , Devotion and Unconditional Cheerful Self-Surrender, Spiritual co-equal status of man and woman as a necessary corollary. True, every religion claims to contain these Principals. But Mai-ism RELIGIONISES them. That is the difference. The difference is in emphasis. By the standards set by Mai-ism you will not be religious unless you live a practical life of Universal Love and Service to all irrespective of caste, creed, color or race. Universal Religion must have a Universal God. Such God can not have His chosen people , temples, scriptures and pilgrimage centers. Universality to be effective must be the supreme quality of one's whole vision and integral outlook with a conviction about its highest value. Universality should not be the outcome of policy, a temporary acceptance for some specific object in view. Next let us take the conception of God as Mother. It is the common experience of daily life that mother is pleased when her children are happy and that particular child is dearest to her who exerts most for the well-being of the other children. When God is Mother and all are Her children service by one child to another pleases Her. Practice feeling that you are a child; a child whom Mother could not but accept, however wicked. Be Mother's child and Her lap shall be thrilling and throbbing to have you on it. If God is Mother to you, there is no meaning in the belief of pleasing Her with servile recitation of Her virtues in an intellectual manner. None acts that way with his own mother. There is every right for a child to make demands on its mother. (Thus Sakama Bhakti is permitted in Mai-ism). You can always run to Her with your problems, you can confess to Her all your follies and misdeeds fearlessly, you can always seek Her protection however wicked you are. But your right and claim are proportionate to and based on your love , service and devotion to Her as Mother. Infinity is thought of , visualized and approached as Divine Mother with all living creatures as Her children. Mother is essentially ocean of infinite Love and Mercy. She, Mother Mai is only human mother raised to the power of infinity, to Godhood. Nothing less than God of all nations, all religions, all humanity, but conceived as Mother. It has to be understood that there is no gender in case of Mother; gender follows words and conceptions only. Mother is neither a woman nor a man nor any other thing. Mother is pure consciousness. No gender should be finally attributed to Her except for fanning the flame of devotion. The common man is unable to meditate on God's Eternal and Invisible Form. So some qualified form is necessary and in adopting a qualified form nothing can be more natural than a parental conception; and in as much as Father is Justice and Mother is Mercy, Motherhood of God is more is acceptable. I am reminded of the last words of His Holiness Pope John xxii who passed away on 3 June 1963. They were " Mater Mea " (Mother Mine). Universal Love and Service are the corner stones of Mai-ism. Leave off everything else. Practise this and this alone. Service is but an application of love. Service concretises love. Mai-ism recognizes love and serve other counts much more than the richness of your offerings, correctness of pronunciation and strict adherence to scriptural details. Even if you do not believe in the very existence of God, if you try your best to love and serve all, you are a Mai-ist, because you are revering Mai in one of Her aspects : Conscience. Devotion : Bhakti yoga is pre-eminently suited to this age. There is no suffering that can not be alleviated by devotion. We come across in the biography of saints and bhaktas very many instances of relief from distress. There is practically nothing that a true devotee can not accomplish. Mai-Swarupa once said that if Religion had to be defined in one word , that word would be sharanagathi which means Unconditional, Cheerful, Self-Surrender. Joseph Headly, a noted religious writer of England wrote in the world Religion Congress Report (Eighth report) " Unconditional, Cheerful Self-Surrender mentioned by Mai Swarupa signifies the necessity for every human being to merge his personal selfhood within the Divine Will and manifest the same in that greater conscious field of Universality ". Guru : Everyone needs a spiritual mentor. This seed has been recognized by religious Savants the world over. Mai-Swarupa makes a slight departure from the usually accepted notions. According to him your Guru need not be perfect; it is often impossible to get a perfect Guru. Any one who is spiritually your superior can be your guru provided he has your spiritual welfare at heart and you confide in him whole-heartedly. The importance of Guru-Shishya relationship is seen from the division into three trios of all the major principles. Maiji declares : [1] Humanity, Love and Service [2] Mother, Devotion and Self-Surrender and [3] God, Guru and Disciple . Take up any trio and fire on. No handicap of what to eat, when to bathe, whom not to touch, which temple, which river, which pilgrimage place, which saint, which priest etc." It can be seen that the first trio suits even atheists. Symbol of Mai-ism : The Swastic is the symbol chosen by the Master. The arm drawn down from the right hand of the horizontal represents Universal Love ; the other arms ,reckoned clockwise represent Service, Devotion and Surrender respectively. The horizontal denotes Universal mindedness and the vertical stands for co-equal status of man and woman. Regarding Adwaitism : Mai-ism says it is a stage of consciousness and not an independent path by itself. Although the supremacy of " I am God " is not denied the world will be happier by being taught "Thou art God ". Mai-ism is not so much for God above or God within, as for God around, God who will be ever with us while we render service with love. Mai-ism was explained , discussed and commented upon in the World Congress by Revered Sister Duchesse Blanche Ladran, The Grand Chancellor of the Universal Religious Alliance. Mai-ism received the greatest approbation in this World Congress of the Universal Religious Alliance , which had a standing of over five decades. In fact it was one of the most important universal religious institutes. As stated in the Preliminary Report pertaining to the Congress held on 23 October 1959, the complete attendance at the Congress was around 3800 persons 2184 of which integrated about 318 different official delegations which came from 96 different countries. The representation was of 449 different sections and sub-sections of religions and various organizations. Further more, 43 countries had sent their official observers . Appreciation and truest understanding about Mai-ism by the said World Congress would be evident from these words," We have received valuable literature from all quarters of the world, which simply reveals that the regeneration of man is at hand, as well as that a new age (Aquarian) is being ushered in taking the shape of brand new Spiritual Civilisation. Where to open the heart ? and where to forget miseries ? Where to sleep ? and where to weep ? What to eat and where to find place for even a seat ? ( Mother being moved to utmost pity with love overflowing, said) " I am defeated, Though wicked, Thou hast won. Forget everything. My love for Thee is overflowing and my lap is pining for the bliss of having Thee thereon. Come up, Come up, my darling child ! " (Says the wicked son of Mother). "When Thou wast pleased to permit me to sit in Thy lap, I did not realize the value of that bliss. When I have now become learned and conversant with sacred lore and ways of worldliness etc. Thou dost not permit me to sit in Thy lap, as I am now a fallen child".
